The Burning Times

There is a lot of confusion about the what is known as the "Burning Times".   This is a period that started in the late middle ages and has continued into the modern era.  The original Burning times started in Europe and has been dubbed "The Great European Witch Hunt".   The idea and practices of the Burning Times has become a world-wide holocaust, a war on those that do not follow the major religions and practices.

There are some very common misconceptions about the Burning Times.  Mostly to do with the atrocities in Salem Massachusetts.  The most important mistake is how many accused witches were burned to death during this period.  The answer is that -0- witches were burnt to death in this time and location.   They were, however, murdered by other means.

The Burning Times began about1300 AD and continues to this day in different geographical areas of the world, such as Africa.

Another misconception is the number of accused witches that were punished through the Burning Times.  The number ranges from 40,000 to numbers in the millions.   We, at Ancient Pathway, have gathered information which is listed below about verified accused witches that have been murdered at the hands of the "righteous".

NOTE:  More historical data will be added in the upcoming expansion of Ancient Pathway, including the information about Inquisitor Heinrich Kramer, author of the Malleus Maleficarum, one of the earliest witch hunting manuals.  The Malleus Maleficarum was written in such a way as to force not only a confession, but also to force the accused to name others, regardless of guilt or innocence.

The final misconception is the attitude that "real" witches of the era took about the actions of the Burning Times.  During the early era, there was a separation of White vs. Black Magick.  Those who claimed to be White witches, such as healers and diviners, were many times in favor of the actions of the Burning Times.  Openly, they stated that this removed the "black" witches.   But more likely, it removed the competition.

As a matter of History, we provide a small list of those accused during this era and their fates.
