Legends and Lore

A Legend is a traditional story that is passed from one generation to another which is usually regarded as historical, but upon investigation has no authentication.   Legends are often tall tales that "stick" but as with most stories, fiction often has its' roots deeply ingrained in fact.

Lore is akin to the legends.  Lore is a body of traditions or traditional stories and knowledge that is passed, usually by word of mouth, from one person to another or one group to another.   Lore is subject to the "grapevine effect" as every storyteller may add their inflections or beliefs to the stories so that they current tale may have a nugget of fact, but has been changed so much that it barely resembles the original
