Dedication: Many people have asked me where this work has come
from. And I have finally come up with an answer. The dedication to
this is simple.
This is dedicated to Peggy, Anna H, Joann, Susan, Ruth Ann, Debbie, Claudia, Pia, Carla (Germany), Shelley, Robin, Ann ?, Camile, Tracy, Evelyn, Kristine, Christine, Laura, Elaine, Lauren, Karen, Rachel and any others that have whispered away from my memories. All of you at one time have been called "friend" and at this time in my life, it is the memories of all of you together that will bring the smile to my face that i can pass to others.
I met a man the other day and he told me that he had no friends.
He was bitter and ragged with deep lines digging into his face.
How long since he had smiled, I wondered to myself.
I met a man the other day and there was music in his voice.
And I had to ask him why.
He smiled and took my hand and put it to his chest.
I am touched by friendship in all that surrounds me.
And I smiled too, though I did not understand why.
I saw the first man this morning and I looked into his tired eyes.
Why are you smiling at me? He demanded.
I took his weathered hand and put it to my chest.
He looked into my eyes as we stood there.
And he smiled.
He understood that once there is friendship, anything is possible.
Take these words to heart.
And know that the only binds that tie you are those that you put upon yourself.
With all the good that you carry with you,
And all the bad that you hide.
With all the beauty that you have
And all the sorrow that you suppress.
With all the good times and all the bad times
In a world of tears and joy.
You have been and will be the smile for this ragged and weather worn man.
You mean a lot to me, even if we are doomed to a life of loneliness.
